FAQs

Can I get an adjustment on my bill?

Certain leaks or situations may qualify for an adjustment. You must complete an adjustment request form provided by the District. All related documentation such as plumber’s bill or receipts for parts purchased must also be attached. Your request will then be reviewed for a possible adjustment. During the review process you are required to keep your account current.

What are the payment methods for my water bill?

  • Bank Draft—This convenient method allows you to have monthly charges automatically drafted from your checking or savings account. An authorization form is located on the back of your bill or call our customer service staff at 546-8408 to obtain the necessary form.
  • Online—Go to www.gcwsd.com and look for the “Pay Your Bill “ button. Please call our customer service department at 843-546-8408 for assistance.
  • U.S. Mail—Please enclose the bill stub, along with the payment, to assure that the account is credited properly. When mailing payments, please allow enough time for the payment to be received by the due date to avoid late charges and possible disconnection. Payments should be mailed to PO Box 100180 Columbia, SC 29202-3180
  • Telephone—Our customer service representatives will be glad to take your payment over the phone using Master Card, Visa, and Discover. Just call 843-546-8408 during regular business hours for assistance. A small credit card fee will be charged on all card payments taken over the phone.
  • Pay in Person—Payments can be made at either of our locations during regular business hours.

Why is my bill higher than usual?

Monthly water bills can increase for a variety of reasons:

  • Did you have any company during the reading period?
  • Are any of your toilets running?
  • Have you done outside watering or power washing?
  • Do you have any leaks?

Not all leaks make puddles on the floor or are otherwise obvious. Many leaks go undetected until you notice an increase in your water bill. To check for possible leaks, look at the face of your water meter. There is a triangle shaped button. With nothing currently on in the house (ie dish washer running or someone in shower) the triangle shaped button should be still. If it is rotating this shows there is water passing through the meter, which may indicate a leak.
