The City of Asheville teams up with the Metropolitan Sewerage District (MSD) to send out bills to its customers. Water and sewer charges are combined on one bill providing customers with the convenience of one bill instead of two.

The City of Asheville’s Water Resources Department reads meters and bills for water and sewer services every two months for residential customers. Larger commercial/industrial customers are billed monthly.

What are the ways to pay the utility bills?

     Pay Online
 
    The City has created a new and improved customer self-service system. Online payment is fast, convenient, and easy, visit the Customer Portal to make a payment or enroll in e-billing.
 

    Pay by Phone
    Have your Combined Utility Statement handy, as you will need your account and customer numbers to ensure your payment is posted to the correct account.
 
    Dial 828-251-1122 (press option 1).
 
    The interactive voice response system will walk you through the process. You can make a payment from your checking or savings account, or with a Visa, MasterCard, or Discover credit card, or an e-check. There is no convenience fee for paying over the phone.
 
    Pay in Person
    You may pay in person at Asheville City Hall at 70 Court Plaza. Please bring your payment to the Customer Services Division on the first floor of City Hall.
 

    Pay through the mail
    Water bills are mailed in convertible envelopes that fold into return mailers. Please include your payment in this return envelope along with your payment stub and send it back using the U.S. Postal Service.
 
    If you lose your return mailer, you can use your own envelope. Send payment to:

Can a customer service representative take my payment over the phone?

     No, call center staff cannot take your payment. This protects your financial data, your bank account, and credit card numbers and maintains compliance with stringent security regulations. A customer service representative will transfer you directly to the interactive voice response line after answering questions about your account or a payment extension.
