Yolo County Secured property tax bill is payable in two installments:
Any current fiscal year secured property taxes unpaid as of 5:00 p.m. June 30 are defaulted. A $15.00 redemption fee is immediately added and the bill begins accruing penalties of 1.5% per month until paid. These tax bills are also referred to as "prior year secured taxes" or "redemptions'.
If the bill remains unpaid for five (5) years, it becomes subject to sale at public auction by the Yolo County Tax Collector.
Supplemental taxes are additional secured taxes that are due when property undergoes a change in ownership or new construction. The additional tax is owed because the Yolo County Assessor is required to immediately adjust the January 1 value to reflect the new value of the property. Adjusted for the number of months left in the fiscal year, the supplemental tax bill represents the tax due on the difference between the old and new values.
