Tazewell County has extended the deadline for residents to pay the first installment of their property taxes to July 1.
In most counties, property taxes are paid in two installments, usually June 1 and September 1. If the tax bills are mailed late (after May 1), the first installment is due 30 days after the date on your tax bill.
When you don't pay your property taxes, the taxing authority could sell your home—or its lien on the property—to satisfy your debt. Or, your mortgage lender might pay the taxes themselves and then bill you. If you fail to reimburse the mortgage lender, it might foreclose your home.
