What happens if I pay my property taxes late?

San Bernardino Property taxes that are paid late are subject to penalties. Generally speaking when taxes are delinquent they are subject to a 10% penalty of the tax amount owed.

Once a property goes beyond the delinquency and becomes defaulted they are subject to additional costs and penalty at the rate of 1.5% per month. 

When are Unsecured Property tax bills mailed?

San Bernardino County Treasurer-Tax Collector mails the Unsecured tax bills in July every year. 

When are Secured Property tax bills due in San Bernardino County (CA)?

San Bernardino Treasurer-Tax Collector mails out original Secured property tax bills in October every year.

The first installment is due on November 1. The final payment deadline is December 10. A 10% penalty will be added if not paid as of 5:00 p.m. The second installment is due on February 1. The final payment deadline is April 10. A 10% penalty will be added if not paid as of 5:00 p.m.

Please note that if a delinquent date falls on a weekend or holiday, the delinquent date is the next business day.

Delinquent Secured accounts are transferred to delinquent tax roll on June 30 (end of fiscal year) and additional penalties added at 1- 1/2% per month on any unpaid tax amounts, plus $15.00 redemption fee.

When are Unsecured Property tax bills due in San Bernardino County (CA)?

Unsecured tax bills are due by 1st August in San Bernardino County. The final payment deadline is 31st August . A 10% penalty is added if not paid timely, plus a collection fee of $25.00, if not paid in full by the delinquent date.

An additional $80.00 applies if not paid by the default date; a fee of $38.00 will apply to partial payment agreement, and a $90.00 fee for field calls (California Revenue and Taxation Code Section 2922(e)). 

The tax bills become default if not paid by 5:00 p.m October 31 and 1-1/2%penalty added per month on any unpaid tax amounts. Please note that if a delinquent date falls on a weekend or holiday, the delinquent date is the next business day.
