FAQs

I have changed my mortgage company who used to pay my taxes through escrow. Who should I inform?

Please inform your county's assessor and treasurer about your new mortgage company. And if you have any delinquent taxes, also notify the treasurer about it. It's advised that you should always check the monthly mortgage statement to make sure your all bills are paid on time to avoid any delinquency.

I can not pay my tax in one payment. What do I do?

Partial payments are accepted in the county. You can make a partial payment of $10 or more. You can also pay through your credit or debit card but remember a convenience fee will be charged for this facility.

What happens if I don't pay my taxes even after the tax becomes delinquent?

Your taxes become delinquent on the first day of March and a penalty of 4% and 1% interest is added to your tax amount. Every month thereafter 1% interest is added to your delinquent tax.  A mailing fee of $15 is charged in October. If taxes remain unpaid till the March of next year then Treasurer will add $175  including the posting fee, recording fee, and 0.05% additional interest for the last 12 months. After the foreclosure, if you don't pay your tax with all penalties then your property will be offered for public sale and you will have to immediately vacate the property.

My property tax has become delinquent because I could not receive the tax bill on time. Is there any way to waive the delinquency fee?

It's the property owner's duty to inform the treasurer's office if he has not received the tax bill.  You should contact the treasurer of your city or town where the property is located if you don't receive the tax bill. There is no way to waive this delinquency fee.
