When are property taxes due in Butte County, California?

Butte County Unsecured property tax payment is due on August 1 and become delinquent on November 1. Delinquent unsecured accounts accrue additional monthly penalties of 1.5% until paid

On November 1, the first secured property tax installment is due and December 10 is the final day to pay the first installment of secured property taxes. A 10% penalty is added after 5:00 p.m. Online payments, however, will be accepted as timely if paid by midnight on the final due date.

On February 1, the second secured property tax installment is due and April 10 is the final day to pay the second installment of secured property taxes.A 10% penalty and an additional $31.00 charge is added to the bill after 5:00 p.m. Online payments, however, will be accepted as timely if paid by midnight on the final due date.

If you are on an installment plan for defaulted taxes, this is the final day to make the annual 20% (plus interest) payment and any current or supplemental taxes due.

What are other options to make my Butte County, California property tax payment?

By Mail: Payments by mail must be postmarked on or before the due date listed on the payment stub.  Please make checks payable to the Butte County Tax Collector. Write your assessment number on your check and include your tax bill payment stub, if available.

Exception: Delinquent property taxes with a final due date of June 30th must be received by the Treasurer-Tax Collector's Department on or before that date.

In Person: The Treasurer-Tax Collector's office is located on the bottom floor of the Butte County Administration building in Oroville. The Property Tax Division accepts cash, checks, and money orders at the front counter and provides a public computer terminal for online payments. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm except on holidays.

During December and April, check and money order payments may be placed in a secured drop box located directly in front of the Treasurer-Tax Collector's office address mentioned above.
